ABOUT RCGI

The Ravenswood Community Group Inc was established after a public meeting in March 2015 and became an incorporated association in December 2015.

 

RCGI is run by volunteers with the basic aim of representing the residents of the Ravenswood locality to authorities that have an impact on the Ravenswood community and its development.

 

KEY PRIORITIES FOR 2021

  • Continue working with the Shire on the design and construction of the Community Centre at the Northern end of Wilghi Way adjacent to the proposed school site.
  • Participate in the development of the Ravenswood Master Plan (a precinct structure as discussed previously, precincts to be linked by walk and cycle ways).  To be an active stakeholder with Shire and land owners/developers.
  • Advocate for the development of Reserve 26526 (south of the caravan park).
  • Advocate for the closure of Frank Cross Park and development of the block for housing and transfer of the name Frank Cross Park to Reserve 26526.
  • Advocate for the establishment of a safe pedestrian walkway/cycleway on the south bound Ravenswood traffic bridge.
  • Riverbank Erosion – continue with work so far.
  • Significant Tree Protection.  Work with the Shire of Murray to develop the tree register.

 

NON-KEY ISSUES

Find innovative ‘in house’ solutions for:

  • Publicising RCGI activities.
  • Membership growth.
  • Installation of toilets at the Moondyne Ramble Park.
  • Playground improvements Ravenswood Green and Gowman Park.
  • CCTV cameras for Ravenswood Entries.

 

ACHIEVEMENTS SINCE INCEPTION

  • Established RCGI as a key stakeholder in the development of Ravenswood with the Shire of Murray, the Peel Development Commission, the Dept of Sports & Recreation, Water & Rivers Commission and other entities.
  • Participated in a workshop with the Shire of Murray resulting in the development of the Shire of Murray Local Community Plan 2016 – 2020 for Ravenswood.
  • Compiled a Strategic Plan for the development of Ravenswood.
  • Represented Ravenswood at Shire of Murray Working Group meetings, Community Safety and Crime Prevention meetings.
  • Worked co-operatively with the Shire of Murray to address maintenance issues within Ravenswood streets and parks.
  • Worked with the Shire of Murray for the installation of a Give Way sign and road markings at the intersection of Lloyd Avenue and Nancarrow Way.
  • In conjunction with Ripple Vision established RCGI website to promote RCGI and Ravenswood.
  • Provided submissions to Senator Fiona Nash MP and Andrew Hastie MP protesting the exclusion of Mandurah and Murray from consideration for funding under the Building Better Regions Fund.
  • Provided submission to the Shire of Murray on the proposed supermarket for Ravenswood.
  • New playground equipment Moodyne Ramble playground – January 2018.  Grant from Robyn Clarke MLA.
  • Shade Sails for Moondyne Ramble playground with grants from Shire of Murray and Pinjarra Community Bank (Bendigo Bank).
  • Campaigned for the relocation of the Ravenswood Post Box (completed) to alleviate parking issues on Lloyd Avenue.
  • Conducted well attended children’s Xmas parties in December 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 in the Moondyne Ramble Park.
  • Participated in “Cleanup Australia Day” each year.
  • A BBQ was relocated to Moondyne Ramble Park by the Shire
  • A picnic table and seats were purchased and located in the Moondyne Ramble Park in a joint venture between the Shire and RCGI.
  • Speed indicator sign installed on Nancarrow Way by the Shire.
  • Input into redevelopment of Gowman Park. $75,000 in 2019/2020 Shire Budget.
  • Shire established access along Angus Place and into Reserve 26526 (south of caravan park) after representations by RCGI.
  • Campaigned for establishment of a Community Centre in Ravenswood.  In December 2020 the Shire committed to the development of a Community Centre on Wilghi Way for a budget cost of $850,000.  The McGowan Government have promised $750,000 for a Community Centre as a re-election commitment.
